David Stuckey's Canyoning Photographs

Welcome to my Canyon Photographs Page. Photographs on this page are in Stereoscopic or 3-D Format. If you would like to look at more of my photographs, there is a link to my website at the bottom of this page.

The Blue Mountains are unique. Due to their geology, the soft sandstones are susceptible to weathering by wind and water. Streams flowing across the plateau carve deep slots into the rock. These widen and deepen with time. They are fascinating places to visit and have their own unique photographic challenges. Canyons are dark places. Any photographer wanting large depth of focus will need to make long exposures necessitating the use of a tripod. Fast film will reduce exposure time at the expense of clarity. High contrast is another problem to overcome in canyons. Use of fill-in flash can assist in some areas. Add to all that, equipment must be transported in waterproof containers. Why do we do it???...because it's fun!!!
